Sunday at Western Street

Western Street in Sai Ying Pun

What is happening at Western Street? Nothing much today, which makes it so great. As you can see from the photo it is ordinary day. In fact it will never make it on the front cover of a luxury travel magazine. Locals pushing garbage uphill, the Hong Kong skyline, panoramic peak views, the ding ding (tram), the hedonistic lifestyle of expats, shopping crowds of Causeway Bay, burning incense at temples, antiques on Hollywood Road, and dried seafood in Sheung Wan will probably have a better chance of making it on a glossy cover.

I took this photo at the bottom of Western Street from Connaught Road West on a Sunday around noon time. It is about 5 minutes walk from my place in Sai Ying Pun. If you walk away from the main roads there are pockets of peacefulness. Today is a quiet but normal day in Hong Kong.
